Farewell to the Martinez Family ❤️🥎
At the end of this month, we’ll be saying goodbye to one of our cherished SGSL and Shockwave families as Jorge, Laura, and Celia Martinez begin an exciting new chapter in Spain.
Jorge has generously given his time as both a coach and parent volunteer, making a lasting impact on so many of our players. Laura has been a valued member of the SGSL Board, helping guide and strengthen our league behind the scenes. And Celia has been an outstanding teammate, friend, and role model whose positive attitude and love for the game will be greatly missed.
The Martinez family has left a lasting mark on our softball community, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they have contributed over the years.
We wish Jorge, Laura, Celia, and their entire family nothing but happiness and success on their new adventure. Once a part of the Shockwave and SGSL family, always a part of the family. We hope to see you back at the fields whenever you’re home! 💙💛🥎

Shockwave 12U
12U Shockwave Competes at Blast by the Bay Tournament
The 12U Shockwave team traveled to Soquel this past weekend to compete in the Blast by the Bay Tournament, facing a strong field of opponents while continuing to gain valuable experience against quality competition.
Shockwave opened tournament play with a hard-fought 4-0 loss to the Roseville Thunder All-Stars. Kamila A gave the team a strong start in the circle, tossing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts before Geneva M came on in relief. Sofia P, Ayeh M, and Kamila each recorded a hit as the team battled one of the tournament’s top teams.
The team responded in game two with an impressive 8-6 victory over WV Slammers Red. After falling behind early, Shockwave exploded for six runs in the second inning to take control of the game. Priya R delivered the biggest hit of the inning with a two-run triple, while Zara C added an RBI single in the third. Ava B led the offense with two hits as the team pounded out 11 hits in the win.
Saturday concluded with an exciting offensive battle against Santa Cruz Crushers Purple. Although Shockwave came up short, the team showed tremendous resilience after trailing early, erupting for eight runs in the fourth inning to nearly complete an incredible comeback. Every run was earned through disciplined at-bats, as the team drew nine walks while receiving RBIs from Eliana G, Ava B, Ayeh M, Aashvi K, Geneva M, Kamila A, Zara C, Sreshta P, and Priya R.
On Sunday morning, Shockwave bounced back in a big way with a dominant 16-4 victory over the 5 Cities Screaming Eagles. Sofia P delivered one of the tournament’s biggest moments, blasting a grand slam as part of a three-hit, five-RBI performance. The offense totaled 14 hits, with Eliana G, Aashvi K, Geneva M, and Sreshta P each collecting multiple hits. After falling behind 4-1 early, Shockwave answered with seven runs in the second inning and never looked back.
The tournament concluded against Scotts Valley Trouble, another talented opponent. Despite the final score, Shockwave continued to compete until the final out while gaining valuable experience against one of the stronger teams in the tournament.
Throughout the weekend, the 12U team showcased its offensive potential, scoring 40 runs over five games while demonstrating resilience, determination, and the ability to respond after adversity. The continued growth and competitiveness of this group were evident throughout the tournament, and the team will look to build on that momentum as the summer season continues.

Shockwave 10U
10U Shockwave Captures Silver Bracket Championship at Del Hays Firecracker Tournament
The 10U Shockwave team put together an outstanding weekend at the Del Hays Firecracker Tournament in Benicia, finishing with a 4-2 record and bringing home the Silver Bracket Championship.
After a tough opening loss to the host Benicia Outlaws, Shockwave responded exactly how championship teams do—with resilience and determination.
The turnaround began with a convincing 7-1 victory over Livermore Smoke-Barnes. Quinn L was dominant in the circle, striking out six batters while allowing just one hit over 3⅓ innings. The offense broke the game open with a five-run third inning highlighted by RBI hits from Alice T and Kaia C, while the defense played a flawless game without committing an error.
Momentum continued into the next game as Shockwave shut out Santa Clara Sparks Royal 6-0. Kaia C tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out six while allowing just three hits. Vera R led the offense with two hits, and the team continued its aggressive style of play by stealing 11 bases and turning a double play on defense.
Sunday began with a rematch against Livermore Smoke-Barnes. Despite jumping out to an early 5-2 lead behind a three-RBI performance from Emmy C, Shockwave came up just short in an 11-7 contest. Rather than letting the loss define their weekend, the team regrouped and responded with two outstanding performances.
In the Silver Bracket Semifinal, Shockwave defeated Benicia Outlaws-Masters 9-8 in another thrilling game. Quinn L drove in two runs with a key double, while Nila M added two RBIs of her own. Vera R and Alice T each collected two hits, and the pitching staff of Quinn, Alessandra P, and Kaia C combined to hold off a late rally to send Shockwave to the championship game.
The championship game showcased the team’s explosive offense. After briefly falling behind 8-6 in the second inning, Shockwave erupted for 16 unanswered runs to defeat Outlaws-Avina 22-8 and claim the Silver Bracket Championship. The offense pounded out 20 hits, with Quinn L, Emmy C, and Kaia C each collecting three hits. Ella M had a tremendous day, driving in five runs, while Nila M delivered a clutch performance in relief, throwing 1⅔ scoreless innings to help secure the title.
Throughout the weekend, the 10U team demonstrated tremendous resilience, bouncing back from adversity with confidence and determination. The offense consistently produced timely hits, the defense made key plays when it mattered most, and every player contributed to an impressive championship run.
Congratulations to the players, coaches, and families on an outstanding weekend and bringing home the Del Hays Firecracker Tournament Silver Bracket Championship!

8U Shockwave Preparing for Next Tournament
The 8U Shockwave team had the weekend off from tournament play but has been hard at work preparing for its next opportunity to compete. Practices have focused on continuing to build fundamentals, teamwork, and confidence as the players get ready for another exciting weekend of softball.
Up next, the 8U Shockwave team will travel to Pleasant Hill to compete in the PHBA Field of Dreams Tournament, taking place July 17–19. We wish the team the best of luck as they continue their summer season. Go Shockwave!
